Careers and DISC Personality System

Every person has distinctive characteristics and qualities, combining to influence their thinking, preferences and behaviour. Over many years, research has shown that these behavioural characteristics can be grouped into four categories called personality styles and that people with similar styles tend to exhibit specific traits common to that style. The DISC personality profiling system was developed as a result of such studies and provides an accurate and neutral means of measuring the four factors from which DISC derives its name:

  • D (Dominance) – one who is direct, decisive, a problem solver, risk taker and self starter
  • I (Influence) – enthusiastic, trusting, optimistic, persuasive, talkative, impulsive, emotional
  • S (Steadiness) – good listener, team player, possessive, steady, predictable, understanding, friendly
  • C (Compliance) – accurate, analytical, conscientious, careful, precise, meticulous, systematic

DISC is a positive tool, aiming to help individuals increase in effectiveness as they identify and capitalise on strengths, whilst recognising potential weaknesses and blind spots. The DISC system is used widely in business, education and for personal development. See Goldisc training resources and our other websites for further details.

Certain personalities tend to be attracted to particular careers and are typically more satisfied, productive and fulfilled in fields conducive to their personality styles because energy is directed towards creativity, rather than survival. For example, a high D is likely to be energised in a leadership role with rewards, whereas a high C may prefer a background analysis job with recognition for quality and accuracy. These tendencies relate to preference and not ability or skill.

Careerkeys® reports utilise a secure online DISC assessment developed from over 25 years experience by The Institute for Motivational Living. The 24 question personality profile assessment takes around seven minutes to complete and has been independently tested and validated.

Careerkeys® report results are based upon the responses entered by the subject and are designed to provide accurate information in regard to the subject matter. The career listings provided are indicative of occupations chosen by similar styles and are not intended to be exhaustive.
